The RaceLayman's guide to the Racing Rules

The Racing Rules of Sailing (RRS) are the rules that govern our sport of yacht racing. If you're taking part in the Round the Island Race, it's important that you are familiar with the rules, particularly those of Part 2 which apply when boats meet. The latest edition is the Racing Rules of Sailing 2021-2024 which can be downloaded from the World Sailing website. Useful guides to the Rules are available from the Island Sailing Club bar, most chandleries and the RYA (www.rya.org.uk).

To help those who don’t race regularly, we have produced an updated “Layman’s guide to the Racing Rules”. While it is important to remember that it is only a guide and not a substitute for the Racing Rules, we hope that everyone will read it and play their part in ensuring that competitors have a safe and enjoyable race.
