General Situation

Today, Saturday : the ridge remains over the N coast of Spain with the decaying low over N Scotland moving E across the North Sea. The cold front has gone through but there are bands & clusters of showers coming up the Channel & along the S coast. These should peter out by noon. It should be an overcast morning with sunny patches getting larger and a mostly sunny afternoon. Temperatures on land should be 16-18°C, a little cooler round the back of the Island.

In the Solent

W/WNW 13-17 kts for the start, veering a little & increasing WNW 15-20 gusting 23 kts by Hurst Narrows easing WNW 13-18 gusting 20 kts by noon. This WNW flow should persist through the afternoon, with the E Solent fairly steady at WNW 15-20 gusting 23 kts from noon onwards. This will make the sea state rather choppy on the ebb, with a short 1m sea in the more exposed areas.

Round the back of the Island

initially this should be NW/WNW 15-20 gusting 23 kts. By around 1100 this should back W 18-23 gusting 24-27 kts, then WSW/W 20-24 gusting 25-29 kts by mid afternoon. The NW/WNW flow from the Solent over the Island should gradually push this WSW/W wind further S by 1800. The breeze will accelerate around the Needles & St Catherine's, and the sea state at St Catherine's on the ebb should be a short & steep 1.5-2m.
